CQ grains dinner to celebrate industry achievements

Grain Central, November 11, 2016

THE who’s who of the grains industry will gather in Emerald in Central Queensland next month for a gala dinner and industry tours to celebrate the sector’s successes and shine a light on the diversity and quality of agricultural production in CQ.

Queensland AgForce Grains president, Wayne Newton, said the grains industry’s ‘night of nights’ – the Queensland Grains Gala Dinner – would be held at the Woolshed at AgGrow Emerald on Friday, November 25.

“The Queensland grains industry is thriving and there has never been a more exciting time with strong markets, forward-facing research and new technologies in production and genetics,” he said.

“These factors present genuine opportunities for Queensland grain producers and the Queensland Grains Gala Dinner gives the entire industry, and those who prosper from it, an ideal moment to celebrate grains.

“It’s a fabulous event where everyone with an interest in the industry – plant breeders, researchers/scientists, suppliers, consultants, producers, traders and buyers – can come together in one place for one night.”

Mr Newton said the gala dinner would be the culmination of a big two days for the grains industry with the AgForce Grains Board holding their annual general meeting and a range of industry tours also planned.

“The Women in Ag Tour and the Ag Landscape in CQ Tour will feature multiple stops and fascinating speakers showcasing an array of exciting agricultural developments in Central Queensland,” he said.

“The tours will stop at Swarm Farm to see their world-leading robotic farming technology, as well as call in to a grape farm, a compost manufacturer, a feedlot and a turf farm.

“It’s all about acknowledging the significant role the Central Queensland region plays in the state’s grains industry, and shining a light on the diversity and quality of the region’s produce.”

Mr Newton thanked all the sponsors who had already come on board to make the event possible, including IOR Petroleum, Swarm Farm (Gold), Rabobank (Silver), Pioneer, Farmarco, CQ Ag Services and Suncorp (Bronze).
