China buys 89pc of Australia’s April barley, sorghum exports

AUSTRALIA shipped 88,991 tonnes of malting barley, 395,311t of feed or food barley, and 89,308t of sorghum to China in April, according to the latest export data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS.

Shipments to China formed 89 per cent of Australia’s coarse-grain exports to all destinations for April, which totaled 92,898t for malting barley, 457,749t for feed or food barley, and 90,259t of sorghum.

The ABS has also released March 2018 barley export figures, which have been revised down slightly from the initial figures released last month to 451,640t for malting and 629,623t for feed or food.

Country of destination information for Australia’s April 2018 barley exports has been made available because a confidentiality agreement, which came into effect in January 2012, expired in March.
