Now is the time for a 2018 Nuffield Scholarship

Grain Central, June 9, 2017

ENTHUSIASTIC farmers with aspirations to supercharge their farming future still have time to put themselves forward for a 2018 Nuffield Scholarship, with applications closing in one week, on Friday, June 16, 2017.

Nuffield Australia CEO Jodie Dean is encouraging those thinking about applying to visit www.nuffield.com.au to download an application form, or to submit an enquiry to help refine a study topic.

“Australian farmers are busy, working around the clock, with often little time left to pursue additional studies or research,” Ms Dean said.

“But the fact is, Nuffield is no ordinary study program. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to pursue your ‘passion-point’ in agriculture, and to make a real difference to your farm business and, more broadly, the farming sector.”

Valued at $30,000 each, the 25 Nuffield Scholarships on offer are a rare opportunity to travel the world, meeting with leading agribusiness, research and policy bodies, visiting farms embracing best practice, and attending the Nuffield National Conference in Darwin later this year.

“One of the best aspects about Nuffield is the 375 strong Alumni of farmers and agribusiness specialists who provide a professional network like no other, and a helping hand to see others propel their agricultural career forward,” Ms Dean said.

“The Alumni is living proof that pursuing a Nuffield Scholarship while managing the day-to-day on farm, field and office, is totally achievable.

“By researching something that you’re passionate about, you’ll come out the other side with new found knowledge and better techniques to accelerate your rural career or farm business, as well as the network to make real change happen.”

Ms Dean said that with applications closing in less than a week, now was the time to start preparing your application, including the development of a study topic area.

“Don’t be afraid to ask for help when forming a study topic – it’s always great to have a sounding board,” Ms Dean said.

“Whatever your agricultural interest is, be it a production constraint, climate change, food security, farm prices, succession planning or agri-marketing, there’s plenty of support from the diverse and proactive Nuffield community.

“And, if you’re looking for more inspiration, visit our website and check out the comprehensive list of scholar reports, which explore a range of issues, challenges and opportunities across the agricultural supply chain – we always welcome new ideas.

“We’re really encouraging our next wave of farm leaders to put themselves forward for a Nuffield Scholarship in 2018. Your career, your business and your industry will be better off because of it.”
