SOUTHERN Australia experienced the passage of multiple cold fronts and a windy week, with bands of rain, thunderstorms, and cool air over western South Australia, western and central Victoria and in north-western Tasmania.
A succession of cold fronts from August 28 to September 2, brought showers, damaging winds, and major flood warnings were issued for the Derwent and Meander river catchments in Tas.
In Tas, weekly rainfall totals greater than 200mm were recorded in the west, totals greater than 100mm were recorded in the north and totals of 50-100mm were recorded in large areas of eastern and northern Tas.
Some areas in Vic, south-east SA, and south-west Western Australia had weekly totals of 15-50mm, while 5-10mm was recorded in parts of far north-east coastal Queensland, south-west WA, southern New South Wales, northern Vic, and areas in southern South Australia.
The highest daily total was 81mm at Pioneer, Tas in the 24 hours to 9am on September 2 and the highest weekly total was 273mm at Warra, Tas.
