SEVERAL weather systems moved through south-west Western Australia and Tasmania during the week, bringing widespread light to moderate rainfall, with localised heavy falls.
A strong cold front swept through south-east Australia on August 25, bringing severe thunderstorms across Victoria and southern New South Wales, and rainfall totals of 10-50 mm across the south-east in the 24 hours to 9am on August 26.
A high-pressure system in the Tasman Sea directed moist onshore flow to north-eastern Queensland, generating widespread rainfall across the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands district, with daily rainfall totals of 25-50mm in the 24 hours to 9am on August 21.
Weekly rainfall totals of 25-50mm were recorded in south-west WA, most of Tas, parts of central and northern Vic, south-eastern NSW, and Qld’s North Tropical Coast and Tablelands district, with totals of 50-100mm in some areas.
Weekly rainfall totals greater than 100mm were recorded in western Tas and isolated areas of northern Vic.
Mount Read, Tas recorded the highest weekly total at a bureau gauge of 202mm.
The highest daily rainfall during the week at a bureau gauge was 71mm, recorded at Mount Hotham, Vic in the 24 hours to 9am on August 26.
