COLD fronts and low pressure troughs brought rainfall to parts of southern Australia.

High pressure dominated over the mainland, keeping most of the continent dry, except for light to moderate falls on the eastern coast.

On the 17th, a low- pressure trough and a cold front brought thunderstorms, showers and hail to south-eastern Australia and snow to the Alpine regions and to lower levels in Tasmania.

Weekly rainfall totals above 25mm were recorded in coastal parts of south-west Western Australia and south-east South Australia, in north-eastern Victoria, and in most of western and northern Tasmania.

A series of cold fronts brought the highest weekly totals to Victoria and Tasmania, with the highest weekly total of 92mm at Mt Baw Baw, Victoria.

Sydney’s Observatory Hill broke its July rainfall record on the 14th; this was the second monthly record for the site this year.
