GRAINCORP’s bunker storage site at Berrybank in Victoria, which has undergone a $3.5 million expansion that increased capacity from 70,000 tonnes to 130,000t, is in full flight taking in this year’s bumper winter crop.

The site is fast filling, passing 28,000 tonnes yesterday, and is likely to reach capacity this season. If it does, it will set a receival record.

Canola has been the main intake so far, sitting at over 24,000t.

With wheat kicking off in the next few days, receival numbers are likely to climb dramatically.

The upgrade included the addition of three new grain bunkers, a weighbridge and new truck entrance.

GrainCorp chief executive officer Robert Spurway said the work was a major win for local growers and the surrounding communities.

“Increasing our bunker storage and segregation capacities will allow growers to deliver their barley and red wheat alongside white wheat and canola, so they will no longer bear the costs of transporting those commodities to other sites further away,” he said.

“The expansion also gives us a greater opportunity to support our communities by employing local people over the harvest period and permanently throughout the year.”
