GrainCorp is eastern Australia’s largest bulk handler by far, and operates seven export terminals and more than 150 up-country receival sites.

GRAINCORP is set to shed at least 70 jobs in a move designed to improve operations and support more consistent services for growers and customers across its eastern Australian network.

Corporate and operational redundancies are included in the positions to be cut, which could number as many as 75.

GrainCorp said the changes will simplify and streamline its corporate and operational structures, while retaining local knowledge and relationships important to growers and regional communities.

GrainCorp chief operating officer Klaus Pamminger said the changes reflect the need for the business to continue evolving.

“The grain industry is changing, and we must make sure the way we operate continues to meet the needs of growers and customers,” Mr Pamminger said.

“We are simplifying our structure so decisions can be made locally, and teams can respond more effectively across the network, particularly at peak times.”

Under the new model, core capabilities including planning, quality and standards will continue to be supported centrally, while regional and site teams will have clear ownership for operational delivery.

GrainCorp operates over 160 sites across Australia’s east coast, including a mix of permanent and “flex” sites, which are opened or closed each season based on outlook and grower demand.

Mr Pamminger said growers can expect continuity through the transition, with no planned changes to the company’s operational site staff or network.

“The changes we’re making are designed to strengthen our ability to support growers over the long-term while maintaining the local relationships and services that are vital to our business.

“We have a strong business and a strong network, and we remain committed to Australian growers and the regional communities where we operate.

“This is a proactive step to ensure we have the right structure and resources to support our customers over the long term, while focusing on preparation for a safe, reliable and efficient harvest this
season.”

GrainCorp said it is working closely with affected employees and providing support through the transition.
