AN AUSTRALIAN Premium Hard wheat variety combining outstanding yield potential, broad disease resistance and a mid-slow maturity profile tailored to southern New South Wales has been released by InterGrain in IG-Bullseye.

Originally trialled as IGW5573, the variety has demonstrated high yield performance across medium to high-production environments, and offers growers a valuable new option for early sowing.

The variety has been classified as APH in the south-eastern wheat zone, and will be available for commercial planting in 2027.

InterGrain senior wheat breeder David Tabah said IG-Bullseye stood out for its yield potential and its ability to tolerate significant disease pressure.

“IG-Bullseye brings together two traits growers are constantly looking for: strong yield performance and a highly dependable disease package,” Dr Tabah said.

“This season, we have seen significant stripe-rust pressure across parts of southern New South Wales, and in trials the variety has very low infection levels.

“Across both InterGrain and external trials, its disease resistance has been a real standout.”

“Having a variety that requires less intervention and maintains its performance under disease pressure provides confidence for growers and advisers alike.”

IG-Bullseye offers a comprehensive disease resistance profile, including strong resistance to stripe rust (MRMSp), yellow spot (MRMSp) and cereal cyst nematode (Rp), as well as useful levels of protection against stem rust (MRp).

The variety is best suited to growers seeking a slower-maturing wheat that can maximise yield potential from mid-April sowing opportunities.

“IG-Bullseye is an attractive option for growers targeting longer growing seasons and premium grain outcomes.”

IG-Bullseye has been released from InterGrain‘s wheat breeding program in NSW, and features a medium plant height, good lodging tolerance, low screenings, and strong test weight performance.

It is suitable for growing under irrigation and as a dryland crop.

InterGrain southern NSW territory manager David Leah said the release adds another important option to the company’s portfolio of wheat varieties suited to southern NSW.

“With the variety looking outstanding in both independent NVT and InterGrain trials across southern NSW in 2026, IG-Bullseye is on target as an exciting new option for growers,” Mr Leah said.

“It doesn’t replace any particular variety, but offers an alternative that delivers yield performance and profitability for growers.

“I encourage growers and advisors in southern NSW to look out for it at field days as the season continues.

“We believe it has a good fit into other regions of Victoria and central NSW, and we will be looking to expand the classification regions in the near future.”

Seed will be available through local resellers and Seedclub Members for the 2027 growing season.
