WOOLWORTHS 716 in-store bakeries across Australia are now offering customers Wise Wheat bread featuring high fibre and low-GI.
Wise Wheat is Australia’s only naturally grown high-fibre wheat flour, available exclusively through Allied
Pinnacle.
It reflects more than 20 years of research and development in collaboration with CSIRO and
Limagrain, which has gone into Wise Wheat as bred by Australian Grain Technologies.
The white and seeded loaves and rolls new to the Woolworths range are being made using Allied Pinnacle flour which features Wise Wheat’s naturally high prebiotic fibre with low-GI benefits, making it an improved source of fibre and sustained energy.
The launch of Wise Wheat with low GI comes as Australians show growing interest in foods that offer added nutritional benefits without compromising on taste or convenience, and follows Wise Wheat’s retail debut with Woolworths in February last year.
YouGov research commissioned by Allied Pinnacle in October 2024, and based on a sample of 1035 Australians aged 18 years and older, found 93 percent of Australians would consume more fibre if it were more convenient, tasted better, or if they better understood its health benefits.
Australian adults are recommended to consume 25g of fibre a day for women and 30g for men, with the
Australian Dietary Guidelines recommending high-fibre grain foods as part of a healthy diet.
“The next phase of functional food is not about adding another product to the shopping basket, it’s
about making the foods already in it work harder through better ingredients like Wise Wheat,” Allied
Pinnacle chief executive officer David Pitt said.
“Bread is just the beginning for Wise Wheat; the opportunity extends across the breadth of flour-based
foods – from bakery and wraps to pizza, pasta and beyond.
“By incorporating Wise Wheat as an ingredient, manufacturers can increase fibre and add functional nutritional benefits to foods Australians already know and love.
“That’s how we can help meet growing consumer demand for food that does more.”
Woolworths merchandise manager Donald Keith said Woolworths knows its customers are looking for simple ways to make healthier choices without having to compromise on the foods they know and love.
“The new Wise Wheat range brings together High Fibre with Low-GI benefits in familiar everyday bread,
making it an easy choice for customers looking to get more from their daily staples,” Mr Keith said.
Each product in the new Wise Wheat range holds a 5-star health rating and combines Wise Wheat’s naturally high prebiotic fibre with low-GI benefits.
Low-GI foods are recognised under Australia’s food standards as being associated with longer-lasting energy and helping people stay fuller for longer, providing a functional benefit that goes beyond basic carbohydrate nutrition.
The flour is said to deliver six times more fibre than regular wheat flour while maintaining the taste, softness and texture Australians expect from everyday flour products.
The new range includes the following Woolworths Low GI High Fibre Wise Wheat products:
- White Loaf 680g;
- White Loaf 370g;
- White Rolls 4 pack;
- Seeded Loaf 680g;
- Seeded Loaf 370g; and,
- Seeded Rolls 4 pack.
