Mice ‘go crazy’ in the Mallee + VIDEO

Grain Central April 12, 2018

MOUSE numbers have begun to flare across the Mallee farming districts of Victoria and South Australia (see video below) as winter crop sowing approaches.

Mouse activity has flared in paddocks across the Mallee region.

The outbreak confirms predictions by CSIRO research scientist, Steve Henry, that mouse numbers were likely to soar in the area through autumn and there was potential for them to cause economic damage this winter cropping season (see Grain Central story).

“Growers should remain vigilant and act accordingly if damage is likely. Because of patchy activity between paddocks, growers are advised to monitor across multiple paddocks to gauge mouse numbers and inform their management decisions,” he said.
