PURE Grain has called time on its operations in Brisbane which handled in excess of 1 million tonnes of grain trans-shipped from southern Australia during the drought.

Started by Stuart and Lyndall Tighe and staff as Boolah Commodity Management (BCM) in early 2018, the operation had up to four sites leased near the Pinkenba wharf, and handled 40 vessels in total.

It received its last drought cargo last year.

The ships brought barley for the adjacent Barrett Burston Malting plant, and feed wheat and barley for a range of customers to help keep southern Queensland and northern New South Wales consumers ticking amid minimal local grain supplies.

Along with the Queensland Bulk Terminal and GrainCorp Fisherman Islands facilities, the BCM/PURE operation was part of the biggest grain trans-shipment program into Brisbane ever seen.

“It is with a great deal of pride and little tinge of sadness that PURE grain is demobilising out of our Brisbane operations,” Mr Tighe announced on social media yesterday.

“A very big thankyou to Abby Ettershank, Nathan Ebbett, Michael Beeston, Peter Millard and the dedicated team of truck drivers, plant operators and grain quality assistants that have overseen a mammoth task.

“With a fantastic crop last year and what looks like another on the horizon, the PURE team is now looking forward to executing from our network of private storage facilities throughout the country.”

PURE Grain’s supply-chain and other services are based in Moree.

As somone who has used this service, it was a testament to true Australian ingenuity, and helped establish “food security” for the NNSW, Qld areas. Well done to all involved.

A great task to mobilise all that to turn supply chains around. Good luck in the future. (although technically we hope its never required again!)
