AUSTRALIA exported 628,670 tonnes of canola in November, according to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The figure is more than 10 times the 64,179t shipped in October, and compares with 709,428t shipped in November 2024, to represent the first volume month in the shipping which officially starts in October.

The surprise top-placed volume customer for November canola exports on 189,060t was the United Arab Emirates, which in November 2024 was the destination for only 54,000t  of Australian canola.

In second and third place respectively for Australia’s November 2025 canola exports were Germany on 106,356t, and Japan on 76,892t.

Belgium, France and The Netherlands were also bulk customers for November-shipped canola, as was recently returned customer China.

In its latest GM Canola Market Report dated January 14 , Lachstock Consulting said the Australian harvest has delivered a crop larger than initially expected.

The agency is now tipping the national figure to be 7.65 million tonnes (Mt), above the 7.23Mt forecast by ABARES in its December 2 Australian Crop Report, including a record crop for Western Australia

Lachstock Consulting said Australia’s 2025-26 canola shipping year has gotten off to a slow start.

“Export pace has been slow early, with limited carry-out — particularly in the east — reducing exporter confidence to book forward business,” the Lachstock report said.

“That said, Australian canola remains competitively priced into Europe and, with a largely
national crop now realised, demand remains relatively robust.

“This suggests exports should build as the full supply picture becomes clearer and confidence returns through the first half of the year.”
