AUSTRALIA exported 511,900 tonnes of canola in April, down 8 percent from 558,394t in March, according to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The Netherlands on 184,109t was the biggest destination by far, followed by France on 64,493t and Germany on 61,073t.

As with March, the United Arab Emirates was not listed as a destination for April-shipped canola.

UAE has in recent years been a regular mid-tier customer for Australian canola, but its access remains impacted by ongoing closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

Since reopening to Australian canola late last year, China has become a regular customer for one or two cargoes per month, and was the destination for 54,000t of Australia’s April-shipped canola.

According to Lachstock Consulting Australian Export Vessel Line-ups reports, May was expected to show close to 550,000t shipped ahead of a drop to 314,000t this month.

Australia’s April 2026 canola shipments sit 3pc above the 495,134t shipped in April 2025.
