AUSTRALIA exported 788,094 tonnes of canola in January, up 34 percent from the 588,922t shipped in December, according to the latest data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.
Germany on 268,898t followed by Pakistan on 192,240t and Belgium on 115,390t were the three biggest markets for January-shipped canola.
Infrequent bulk destinations seen in January shipments included Greece with 63,701t and Portugal with 33,000t.
According to Lachstock Consulting’s recent Australian Export Vessel Line-ups report, Australia was expected to ship 523,000t of canola in February.
The January 2025 figures compares with 424,712t shipped in January 2024, with the smaller tonnage reflecting the relatively dry 2023-24 growing season for Western Australia.
In quarterly estimates released last week, ABARES estimated Australia’s 2024-25 canola exports at 4.51 million tonnes (Mt), down from 4.72Mt in 2023-24, and a record 5.67Mt in 2022-23.
