Barley, sorghum exports tail off as China buying dwindles: ABS

Grain Central November 28, 2018

EXPORT figures totaling 99,233 tonnes for Australian barley and sorghum in September show a steep drop from August, when a total of 268,722t was shipped, according to the latest data available from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

A drop in shipments to China was largely behind the month-on-month reduction in tonnage, with Australia’s major barley market importing no feed barley in September, compared with 54,969t in August.

China’s malting imports dwindled from 123,856t in August to 506t in September, and sorghum shipments dropped from 28,869t in August to 8912t in September.
