AUSTRALIA exported 382,383 tonnes of wheat in August, down 13 per cent from 437,476t shipped in July, according to the latest export data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

South Korea with 112,622t was the biggest customer on August shipments, followed by China on 62,691t and Japan on 57,701t.

Australia’s August wheat-shipment figures show the typical drop in volume to Asia and the Middle East as wheat from the Black Sea hits the world market at competitive prices.

They also reflect the rundown of current-crop stocks ahead of new-crop bulk shipments which will start next month.

In August last year, Australia exported 596,897t of wheat, with South Korea on 91,100t, Indonesia on 83,633t and The Philippines on 71,531t the biggest markets.
