PORTS in western Europe were the destination for 316,225 tonnes, or 98 per cent, of the 323,972t of Australian canola shipped in November and December, according to the latest shipment figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).
Belgium, France, Germany and The Netherlands have all taken bulk cargoes shipped in November and December, with trade sources saying most, if not all, shipments have come from Western Australia.
This reflects the dismal year for canola production in New South Wales, which has left crushers unable to cover their requirements without supplementing feedstock with interstate supplies.
