Nuffield’s ‘destination conference’ set for Darwin

Grain Central, August 1, 2017

REGISTRATIONS are now open for the Nuffield Australia National Conference to be held for the first time in Darwin, from Tuesday 19 September to Thursday 21 September 2017.

Jodie Dean

The National Conference is Nuffield Australia’s flagship annual event, offering a meeting point not only for Scholars and Investors but the broader agriculture industry and in 2017, a unique insight to northern agriculture.

Anyone with an interest in primary production and the latest technologies from overseas is encouraged to attend.

Nuffield Australia CEO Jodie Dean said this year’s conference would include two days of speakers and sessions in Northern Australia.

“This year’s theme, ‘New Horizons’, goes straight to the heart of what we achieve at Nuffield, highlighting the emerging trends into agricultural commodities, practices, innovation and technology,” Ms Dean said.

“There will be a detailed focus on agriculture in Northern Australia with panel sessions focusing on issues such as infrastructure development, economic management, human resourcing, connectivity and resource protection in the north.

“This conference is an ideal opportunity to gain an understanding of the plans to unlock the full potential of Northern Australia, so as to boost Australia’s agricultural export prosperity, specifically to Asia, which is home to over four billion people and some of the fastest growing economies in the world.”

Delegates will hear first-hand from 25 returning Nuffield Scholars, who will share the latest information and emerging technologies about primary production that they have gathered from around the world.

The scholar presentations cover a wide range of industries and topics including, but not limited to, genetics and labelling options for cattle, boosting productivity from sustainable dryland cropping systems, export opportunities for Australia’s aquaculture industry and agriculture versus mining – can it co-exist?

In addition to returning scholar presentations and a detailed focus on agriculture in Northern Australia, the conference will also host the Annual Awards Dinner, announcing the successful Nuffield Scholars for 2018.

“It’s a great opportunity to congratulate those scholars presenting their study findings and to also welcome and formally introduce those who will be awarded a 2018 Scholarship and are about to embark on the journey of a lifetime,” Ms Dean said.

“This year’s event is truly a destination conference.

“The iconic location of Darwin, together with the valuable networking opportunities for all farmers and those within the industry to engage with scholars, investors and key influencers, makes it a must-attend on the Australian farming calendar.

“Keynote speakers and more details about the event will be released over the coming weeks. We encourage everyone to register their attendance as soon as possible.”
