SEVEN sites which have long been part of South Australia’s bulk-handling network have been deemed surplus to requirements by owner Bunge and are up for sale.

The sites are located at Bordertown, Tintinara and Coomandook in the Upper South East, Geranium and Wunkar in the Murray Mallee, and Murdinga on the Eyre Peninsula.

Bunge has appointed Elders to undertake a public sales process for the sites, which no longer play a role in Bunge’s operational network,  and a tender process for their sale commenced today, with binding offers required by 21 August 2026.

Following multiple approaches from parties expressing interest in purchasing individual sites, the sales process provides opportunities for local ownership, alternative use, or redevelopment that may benefit local communities.

“It is certainly a privilege to offer the sites to market,” Elders SA rural sales manager Adam Chilcott said.

“This represents a rare opportunity to secure established grain storage and logistics facilities with existing infrastructure, transport connectivity and scope for ongoing operational use, redevelopment or alternate commercial applications.

“This is an excellent opportunity to unlock value and deliver long-term benefits.”

Bunge director strategic planning and corporate development ANZ Craig Cochrane said the sale of the six sites could enable alternative uses or redevelopment that may deliver long-term benefits for local communities.

“While these sites are no longer part of our operational network, we recognise they may present opportunities for others,” Mr Cochrane said.

“There are no changes to Bunge’s ongoing operations, and we remain firmly focused on our commitment to South Australian farmers, and the receival, storage and logistics services we provide.”

About the sites

Bordertown: With a storage capacity of 36,200 tonnes, this site has a strong recent operating history which includes receivals in the 2025-26 harvest;

Coomandook: Located on the Dukes Highway, it offers scale and connectivity for future logistics or alternative commercial use, and has a storage capacity of 23,000t;

Tintinara: This asset can hold 13,000t, and features third‑party lease revenue from telecommunications and food-processing tenants;

Geranium: This former grain-receival site on approximately 1.75ha offers flexibility for redevelopment, and has a storage capacity of 20,100t;

Wunkar: While capable of storing 6600t, operations here ceased several years ago, the site presents a blank‑canvas opportunity suited to redevelopment, storage, or alternative uses;

Murdinga: Offered across multiple titles, this past site provides flexibility for industrial or alternative rural development, and has a 23,400t storage capacity.

Inspection dates for the facilities will be available through Elders from July 20.
