HARVEST has accelerated  in South Australia in the past week, with growers delivering 336,675 tonnes to the Bunge network to take total receivals since October 13 to 398,171t.

Bunge, which has this year taken over Bunge’s bulk-handling network in SA and western Victoria, took its first deliveries for this harvest at 13 sites in SA, with barley the primary commodity delivered across the network, followed by lentils and wheat.

“Harvest kicked off at our Buckleboo, Elliston, Penong, Poochera and Warramboo sites with the first deliveries for the season coming in,” Bunge Western region operations manager Nick Pratt said.

“Wednesday marked our busiest day so far, and we’re now starting to see deliveries of all commodities as some farmers finish harvesting lentils and move onto cereals.

“Thevenard received the majority of tonnes during the week, and deliveries to Wudinna, Lock and Port Lincoln also started to increase.”

Bunge Central region operations manager Jack Tansley said lentils remain the focus for farmers in the Central region.

“More than half of the region’s deliveries last week were lentils,” Mr Tansley said.

“This includes achieving our biggest day of lentil deliveries at Wallaroo since we started receiving the commodity in the 2023-24 harvest.

“Across the region we now have 11 sites operating, with Port Giles, Roseworthy and Booleroo Centre receiving their first new-season deliveries last week.”

Bunge Eastern region operations manager Andrew Cannon said another five sites have also welcomed their first deliveries for the harvest in the region.

“Deliveries have now started at our Apamurra, Lameroo, Loxton, Tailem Bend and Werrimull sites,” Mr Cannon said.

“Werrimull and Inner Harbour received the majority of tonnes for the week, with deliveries of barley and lentils.

“Overall deliveries for the region remain slow as farmers in later areas such as the South East are yet to start harvesting.

Our local teams are continuing to work closely with farmers to understand when they will be ready to deliver so we can ensure our opening hours meet their needs.”
