WESTERN Australian bulk handler CBH Group has called the 2024-25 harvest its third-largest ever at 20.3 million tonnes (Mt) delivered by growers.
The total includes record deliveries in the Albany Zone, which eclipsed its previous highest by 100,000t.
In a statement released today, the co-operative revealed receivals by zone totalling 20,359,000t were as follows:
- Albany 4,633,000t
- Esperance 3,165,000t
- Geraldton 3,473,000t
- Kwinana North 4,745,000t
- Kwinana South 4,343,000t
CBH Group chief operations officer Mick Daw said WA had three of its highest-production years in the past four, driven by innovative practices of WA growers.
“With the unusual seasonal conditions this season, growers have done an amazing job delivering a crop this size,” Mr Daw said.
“This season was completely different from the record crop of 2022-23, where the season looked promising from as early as April, whereas 2024 started out very dry right across the state.
“It wasn’t until decent rainfall across the grainbelt in early July that the season showed signs of turning around.
“As crops matured, growing conditions in most areas became ideal with just the right amount of rainfall, and minimal water logging or frost events.
“When harvest approached, decent yields surprised most in the WA grains industry.”
Mr Daw said rain made for a “stop-start” harvest, and deliveries, with recent investments in the CBH network allowing the daily network receival records to be broken on three separate occasions over harvest, finishing with the biggest day of 630,565t on November 29.
Consecutive wet weather events in November and December caused quality issues in some areas and saw falling numbers testing for wheat increase cycle times at some sites.
During the 2024-25 harvest, 29 CBH sites set daily tonnage records and 20 sites exceeded their previous record for total tonnes delivered to the site in one harvest.
