THE SEARCH for harvest casuals at sites in South Australia and Western Australia has started, with bulk handling majors Viterra in SA and CBH Group in WA opening their recruitment campaigns.

CBH Group each year recruits more than 1000 seasonal workers to help receive and store the WA winter crop, and in recent days put out the call for workers for harvest 2020-21.

Viterra has this week announced its annual harvest recruitment drive for up to 1800 people to help handle grain at 55 sites in SA and western Victoria.

“All our harvest roles are provided with complete training, so no previous experience is necessary,” Viterra human resources manager Alyson Gilbey said.

“Viterra is proud to be a major employer in regional communities and provide a workplace for employees to develop in their roles, with some staying on as permanent employees after harvest has finished.”

Ms Gilbey said Viterra generally looked to recruit around 1500 harvest workers annually, but this year expected the number to be higher due to the more positive outlook for the season.

Depending on site location and harvest timing,  casual employment shifts with most bulk handlers operating in southern Australia will start in October and continue into January.

Smaller operators such as T-Ports on SA’s Eyre Peninsula are also recruiting, and interested parties are invited to check company websites for details.

Eastern states bulk-handling major GrainCorp last month put out its call for an expanded harvest workforce.
