THE Queensland Competition Authority has been directed by the Queensland Government to review the irrigation pricing practices of Seqwater and Sunwater.

The purpose of the review is to recommend irrigation prices to apply for from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2029.

Cotton Australia will lodge a submission to QCA on behalf of Qld growers, but has also urged all local irrigator groups and individuals to make their own submissions on key points by the cut-off date of on February 29.

The QCA will then prepare and release a draft price determination in July, with a final determination for the price path expected in February 2025.

QCA is holding workshops to provide stakeholders with an opportunity to share their views and ask questions, with key ones for cotton producers being February 8 at Emerald, and a February 13 online event for Sunwater schemes only.

According to the QCA, Sunwater and Seqwater were due to submit their pricing proposals to the authority by November 30.

“Submissions do not necessarily need to be detailed or comprehensive – brief comments on specific issues are welcome,” QCA said.

“We also welcome collaboration between stakeholders to provide joint submissions. Where possible, stakeholders should provide evidence to support their statements.”
