Viterra receives 14,056t in week as harvest hots up

SOUTH Australian growers have delivered 14,056 tonnes of grain to Viterra sites in the week to Sunday to lift  the 2024-25 harvest total to 15,486t.

Barley, followed by lentils and wheat, accounted for most of the week’s deliveries, which also included first loads of canola and field peas.

A load of H2 wheat to Port Pirie by local grower Stephen Mudge kicked off the Central region’s intake last Monday during a week when 15 Viterra sites receiving their first new-season deliveries.

Viterra Western region operations manager Nick Pratt said 10 Eyre Peninsula sites received their first loads during the week, including four which received their first ever lentil deliveries.

“To support EP growers who increased lentil plantings, we are receiving the commodity for the first time this harvest at Tumby Bay, Warramboo, Arno Bay, Cummins and Thevenard,” Mr Pratt said.

“Arno Bay, Tumby Bay, Warramboo and Cummins received their first 2024-25 season deliveries last week, all of which were lentils.

“This follows on from the first lentil delivery at Thevenard a couple of weeks ago.”

Mr Pratt said Rudall was also among the sites to receive this harvest’s first delivery last week, marking a milestone as the first delivery through its new and extended weighbridges.

Other Viterra sites to receive their first 2024-25 harvest deliveries last week included: Ardrossan;  Inner Harbour; Kimba; Port Lincoln; Lock; Penong; Snowtown; Tooligie, and Wallaroo.
