A turnkey cropping opportunity in WA’s Mid-west region has been sold for an undisclosed price to two local interests for expansion.

The 2564ha Hillcrest and Kiama Downs were offered for sale as a whole or separately to finalise a deceased estate after more than 60 years of family ownership.

The two standalone cropping enterprises are divided into 21 paddocks and grow wheat, canola, lupins and pasture in rotation.

Nutrien Harcourts agent Brad King said the vendor had been using modern GPS technology for easy access and workability on watercourses, remnant vegetation, contour banks and roadways.

The 1208ha Hillcrest is located in the highly regarded North Eradu district.

Around 1044ha is arable and features highly sought after lighter yellow sandplain typical of Eradu.

Infrastructure includes a four-bedroom home, a new two-bedroom demountable accommodation unit, sheds and storage, grain silos, water tanks and a scheme water connection.

The 1355ha Kiama Downs is situated near Tenindawa, west of Mullewa.

Around 995ha is arable and offers medium to heavier loams.

There are outcrops of native bush on creek lines and breakaway ridges, with the northern boundary bordering the banks of the Greenough River adjacent to the Bindoo Nature Reserve.

Infrastructure includes numerous sheds, a shearing shed, yards, grain silos and connected scheme water.

Meantime, tightly held cropping and grazing country close to Geraldton in the Mid West region is generating strong local inquiry, according to Nutrien Harcourts agent Brad King.

The 2021ha Sandplain Farm is located near Nangetty, 25km north-west of Mingenew and 80km south of Geraldton Port.

Sandplain Farm was originally part of the Newton family farming business.

Cleared in the 1970s, it is now offered for sale by the family estate.

Around 1977ha are arable and feature mostly yellow sandplain soils growing cereals, oilseeds and lupins.

The farm is in a fallow-pasture rotation ready for the upcoming season.

During their ownership, the vendor has applied modern farming practices including deep ripping, chemical application, lime sand and dolomite and fertiliser to maximise crop yield.

Mr King said Sandplain Farm, which is can also run sheep, is presenting well.

“Situated in the highly sought after medium to high rainfall Mingenew region, it is well located to the Geraldton Port for inputs and grain deliveries.”

Watered by four permanent soaks, infrastructure includes a three-bedroom home, sheds, four grain silos and tanks and troughs for livestock.

Sandplain Farm is being offered for sale by expressions of interest closing March 22.
