Weekly rainfall update + outlook 23 July 2024

TROUGHS extending from a low-pressure system in the Tasman Sea brought 15-50mm  of rain across Victoria, Tasmania and elevated areas in southern New South Wales in the 24 hours to 9am on July 16.

Totals of more than 100mm fell in the ranges of north-eastern Victoria,

Cold fronts swept through south-west Western Australia late on July 17 and moved into south-eastern Australia from July 19, bringing widespread rainfall to southern Australia and snow to alpine areas.

Weekly totals of 25-100mm were recorded in Tas, south-east South Australia, elevated areas of southern NSW, the south-west coast of WA, and much of Victoria, including areas that have been the driest on record since February 2024.

Weekly totals of more than 100mm were recorded in central Vic and parts of Tas.

The highest weekly total was 208mm at Mount Baw Baw, Vic, which also recorded the highest daily total of 117mm in the 24 hours to 9am on July 16.
