Weekly rainfall update + rain outlook 16 August 2023

EARLY in the week, a cold front brought rainfall totals of up to 20mm in south-west Western Australia and southern Australia, followed by another front later in the week, with showers across Tasmania.

During the weekend a low-pressure trough brought showers and thunderstorms to WA and South Australia and rain to New South Wales on Sunday night.

Weekly rainfall totals of 50-100mm for western Tasmania and small pockets of tropical Queensland were recorded.

Weekly rainfall totalled 15-50mm in south-west WA, the Victorian Alps, south-east SA, and south-east NSW.

In other parts of southern Australia, areas of coastal Qld and the Top End, 1-10mm fell.

The highest daily rainfall total during the week at a Bureau gauge was 48mm at Cape Moreton Lighthouse, Qld, in the 24 hours to 9am on August 8, which also recorded the highest weekly rainfall total at a Bureau gauge of 88mm.
