Weekly rainfall update + rain outlook 29 March 2023

Showers and rain continued across the tropical north.

Intense rain and thunderstorms affected eastern New South Wales and northern Victoria during the week, and western parts of Western Australia late in the week.

The highest weekly total at a Bureau gauge was 197mm at Topaz Alert in Queensland, while the highest daily total at a Bureau gauge was 144mm which fell in the 24 hours to 9am on March 22 at Crocker Island Airport in the Northern Territory.

Weekly totals of 15-50 mm were recorded across most of the coastal northern tropics, south-east Qld, eastern NSW and Victoria, as well as most parts of western WA. The stormy nature of the week’s rain saw some areas receive in excess of 50mm.

Small areas along the Cape York coast received more than 100mm of rainfall for the week.
