A WEAK cold front over south-west Western Australia. and onshore flow for northeast Queensland and western Tasmania brought moderate rainfall to these areas.

A strong cold front passed over southern Australia in the middle of the week then weakened and moved offshore into the Tasman Sea Friday afternoon. It brought severe thunderstorms with intense localised rainfall and snow to low levels for parts of the south-east.

Tasmania received much of the weekly rainfall when the persistent westerly flow of the various fronts skimmed southern Australia.

Weekly totals greater than 100mm were recorded in parts of Queensland and Tasmania and greater than 50mm in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia.

The highest weekly total at a Bureau gauge was 196mm at Mount Read, Tas, and the highest daily rainfall during the week of 75mm was recorded at Babinda Post Office, Qld in the 24 hours to 9am on May 25.

Most of Australia received little to no rain during the week.
