Weekly rainfall update + rainfall outlook 13 Mar 2024

ONSHORE flow brought rainfall totals above 10 mm along fringes of the Queensland coast, and more than 200mm in an area of the Northern Tropical Coast with minor flooding of the Tully River.

Monsoon storm activity across the Top End and northern Western Australia brought showers throughout the week, and large areas had totals of 100-300mm.

Over March 9-11, a front colliding with an upper trough drawing tropical moisture south delivered rainfall totals exceeding 100mm to parts of the Southern Interior, Goldfields and Eucla districts in WA.

Eyre, on the Nullarbor coast, recorded 141mm in the 24 hours to 9am March 10, an annual record for the site, and 197mm for the week, around 62 percent of its average annual rainfall.

The highest daily rainfall during the week at a Bureau gauge was 178mm at Parry Creek Farm, WA, in the 24 hours to 9am on March 9 and the highest weekly total was 636mm at Tully Sugar Mill, Qld.
